THE SCENARIO
Suppose you wandered into a dark alley and stumbled upon a cornered woman struggling over her purse with a stranger. Would you intervene? What if you saw a man breaking into a house? Would you confront him? What if he completely ignored you when you did? What would you do if you saw someone trying to steal a car with a terrified driver and child inside? Would you try to stop it?
Now consider this: What if the purse thief were actually a “Good Samaritan”, trying to return the purse that the woman left on top of her car? But what if you only learned this after you had taken some sort of action? What if the burglar was actually the owner of the house? What if he didn’t hear you because he was deaf…but you had already called the police on your cell phone…or tried to take matters into your own hands? What if the carjacker were actually the owner of the car…and the thief were already inside with the child…and your actions helped him to get away? What could the consequences be?
THE ASSIGNMENT:
Your challenge is to create a 10 to 30 minute film using one of the scenarios above, or a completely original one of your own. The general flow of the story should be as follows: Your main character should begin his or her day in a completely normal fashion. They should be experiencing some sort of personal dilemma, either big or small, which may cause them to view things from a certain perspective (family illness, trying to learn a new job, car trouble, relationship problems…anything you wish). Your character should unexpectedly stumble upon a situation, and take some sort of action. Your story should reveal that your character misinterpreted the situation, and his or her actions now have consequences. How those consequences are dealt with is completely up to you. Be as creative as you can. Your story can be dramatic, suspenseful, horrific, or even a comedy. The only stipulation is that your story MUST begin during the DAY and end at NIGHT.
VERY IMPORTANT: If your submission is selected, you will have to provide release forms for all the actors, music & locations in your film. We strongly recommend that you get these signed right away. Don’t wait to find out if you are a winner…people may move or become difficult to track down(or become famous and get “weird” about independent film projects), so get these done as you shoot!
Show us your best…we want you to win!
GOOD LUCK!
